We arrived in Nairobi on Friday night and the last few days have been quite a blur. I would have written sooner, but we don't have internet connection at the mission home - yet, and I couldn't remember the username and password, and when I tried to use the computer at the mission office the blog information was in German. But all is good and we're progressing.
Our home is two levels and is beautiful. So many beautiful flowering trees, roses everywhere, and it's green. We live in a gated compound with a guard. There are several condos in the compound, with an exercise room, a gazebo and fountain, etc. It's really nice.
Bill is mastering the driving here. They drive on the left side of the road and there are many, many cars and trucks which are always changing lanes without signaling. It's exciting. The truck/car that we drive has stick shift that Bill works with his left hand instead of right. He's doing very well. We've only been lost a couple of times. One time two missionaries saw us turn down the wrong road and knew that it was a dead end. So they followed us and when we turned around, they came with us to help us get to the right place.
The Elders and Sisters and wonderful and I'm working hard to learn and remember their names. We have 6 missionary couples living here in Nairobi and we had FHE with them on Monday night. We had dinner with Elder and Sister Steinmetz (Nola). It was so delicious and so appreciated.
Last night Bill and I went grocery shopping. What an experience: new brands, different packaging (juices and milk come in cardboard cartons and we put them on a regular shelf instead of in the refrigerator. After it is opened we refrigerate it.), what is available, what is not. I wasn't able to find microwave popcorn, but the office Elders told me that it is available. I shall continue to look!
The members here don't use their last names, so we call them Sister Theresia, Sister Josephine, Brother Kenneth, Brother John. It makes it easier to remember their names for me.
I'll try the camera and pictures soon.

Hey Pres & Sis Bill & Genie:
Quads from the other "K". Glad you made it safely and that Bill is learning how to drive. Christian suggests that you keep one milk (unopened) in the fridge. Cold milk is oh so yummy. We hope you are having a great time. Blaine, Marianne & Family
