After the conference, the Elders wanted to hold a zone activity, so we joined them and went to a crocodile farm—actually it was just a place where they keep crocodiles, but call it a farm. There were so many crocodiles. One pool had hundreds of baby crocodiles—it was gross! At 5:00 on Friday, they feed the crocs, so we stayed and watched them. In one pool they just threw out fresh meat—it really smelled bad. Then in another pool they put a whole chicken, so small animal, on a hook and held it out over the water where the crocs were. Then the crocs would jump up to grab the meat. They would climb over each other trying to get the meat. Quite a sight! They have one crocodile that is called Big Daddy. He’s the largest one and it was said that it had killed 5 people. He was in a pool with two other crocs but wouldn’t come out of the water. So the keeper just threw the meat into the enclosure. One of the crocs grabbed a piece of meat and it was very juicy (bloody) and the blood ran out of its mouth, down its jaws, etc. He kept the meat in its mouth and swam out into the pool. I didn’t think I’d ever see anything like that! I chose not to go into the reptile place—choosing instead to be able to sleep at night. (Besides, while eating breakfast that morning on the veranda of the hotel, I saw a small green snake drop from one branch of a tree to another).
