Mt Kilamanjaro

We had a wonderful side trip to Amboseli Game Park. It’s located on the Kenyan/Tanzania border and has a marvelous vista of Mt. Kilamanjaro. It is so beautiful. Coming into the park we saw the top of the mountain peeking through the clouds. We arose early to see the top and were not disappointed. We even got pictures of elephants and us with Kilamanjaro behind us. We saw many herds of elephants. It was so fun to see all ages in the herds—babies, teenagers, mommas, and off in the distance the big bull elephants. We stopped in one place and just watched several herds walking across the road in front and behind us. In a couple of herds we counted over 50 elephants. We saw the Waller's gazelle (Gerenuk) that stands on its hind legs to eat out of the trees. It has a longer neck that the other gazelles and is rather skinny. We saw 32 different kinds of animals and it was breathtaking. As we sat at the lodge after the first day, we saw a couple of elephants eating, monkeys in the foreground, and a gazelle eating. What a delight! We watched vultures circling, and the Crowned Crane which is so beautiful. We had a great time.
