January 2-5 we were in Kisumu. Here in Kenya many people leave their homes "upcountry" and go to Nairobi for work. After a while they return to their homes. However, the church is not yet in Kisumu, so we met with the members who are there trying to live the gospel on their own. They were so excited to meet other members of the church and to gather for a Sacrament Meeting. This is a picture of some of the men who came. All are members except the three in the center--they have a sister in law living in Nairobi who invited them.

These are the women who attended. The sister at the bottom of the picture lived in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania until recently when she moved home to Kisumu. The lady next to me (Beatrice) and the one in the middle with the white top (Pfanice) and the one at the bottom (Violet) are the members. Others were invited by their relatives.

These are the children who came with their parents. The meeting was held at the sports ground under an awning. It was fun watching these young people come walking across the grounds with their mothers dressed for church. Because we weren't in a building, 5 different people were walking by and felt that there was something good for them at the meeting, so they joined us.

I love hearing about the people in Kisumu-- it's inspiring to me that they just keep on living the gospel no matter what. Thanks for writing and giving us some photos!
