One more picture: This is Julius Makombe and his wife Kolloric and their youngest boy. Julius was baptized while living in Nairobi going to school. After school he obtained employment, but when his employer found out that he had joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he was fired. He had no alternative but to return to his ancestral home near Kisumu where he has a small home and shamba (garden). He visited with Bill in Nairobi in June and wanted to be ordained to the Priesthood. Bill gave him a book of the Duties and Blessings of the Priesthood and told him to go home, read the book and prepare to receive the Priesthood. He did and when we were in Kisumu he and his wife rode the bus 5 hours to meet us. We met them, took them to our hotel, fed them some lunch, then went to the room where Bill interviewed him and then ordained him to the Melchizedek Priesthood. Because they live so far from any organized branch, they are holding a worship service in their home each Sunday. They have 3 children of their own, and they are talking care of 3 of his brother's children. His brother and his wife have passed away. This is quite common here in Kenya to take in other's children--sometimes family, sometimes not.
Just in passing: Not this man but another man has 13 children. The youngest two are named John McCain and Barak Obama. The former branch president in Bamburi has a son named George Bush.
